When Coco Gauff opened up about the support of her parents after her French Open victory

Coco Gauff stunned the tennis community by securing her second Grand Slam title at just 21 years old, winning the French Open in June 2025. After prevailing over several top players, she faced off against Aryna Sabalenka in the final. The world No. 1 took the opening set, but Gauff quickly found her rhythm and dominated the next two to seal a 6-7, 6-2, 6-2 victory and lift the title.

Following the win, she addressed the media in the post-match interview and opened up about her parents being her biggest support. Revealing how they were a safe space for her, she said:

“You know, they’re definitely someone who listens to my opinion the most, and I think sometimes we hear crazy stories of tennis parents and all that, and I can say I don’t relate to that,” Gauff said.

She further spoke about asking her father to step back as her coach and involving her mother more on the road.

“I’ve asked my dad to take a step back and he did and ended up being a great thing for both of us and my mom I’ve asked I needed her to be on the road more just to have especially well I have my physio but you know being in a team full of men, I was like I need some estrogen and some female energy here so I asked my mom to go and you know women just notice more things so yeah.
“Hugging them at the end my mom was pretty emotional my dad was just happy my dad cried at US Open he didn’t cry here so, I didn’t think they were going to cry but yeah, honestly, it’s just been so great to have them and be able to for them to experience,” Gauff said.
