Coco Gauff Spills No-Mercy Rule For Family & Leaving Younger Brother Cameron With ‘Meltdowns’

Following her formidable win over Olga Danilovic at the 2026 Australian Open, Coco Gauff opened up about her approach while competing against her brother Cameron. Gauff advanced to the third round on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at the Margaret Court Arena.

Gauff took advantage of the Serbian tennis player’s unforced errors to outmatch her. She clinched her spot in the next round with a 6-2, 6-2 victory. During her courtside interview, Gauff opened up about her competitiveness, stating that she doesn’t even spare her youngest brother. She highlighted that she is probably the second most competitive person in her family, after Cameron. The two-time Grand Slam winner added that since her brother is only 10 years younger than her, she treats him like an adult. She also mentioned not going easy on him.

“Honestly, the most competitive person in my family is my youngest brother. He’s had some meltdowns with us. We’re 10 years apart, so I don’t do him any favors. I treat him like my age because he has to learn, grow up. So I think Cameron is the most competitive and then probably me.”

Gauff is the eldest sibling. While she is making her mark in the professional tennis circuit, her middle and youngest brothers, Codey and Cameron, are committed to baseball and football, respectively.

Coco Gauff Once Opened Up About Her Brother Cameron Designing Shoes For New Balance

Coco Gauff’s younger brother Cameron designed the tennis sensation’s signature New Balance shoe, the Coco CG1. They were New Balance’s first-ever kids’ performance tennis shoe. The shoes featured multiple vibrant colors, including blue, green, and orange. She spoke about her brother’s confidence in trusting his instincts and highlighted his excitement.

“He was really excited,” Coco Gauff said. “I think he kind of sensed [what would happen] in a way because they asked him to draw on this shoe and then for the paper, so he’s young, but he kind of put two and two together.”

“I asked him about that and he said it was, ‘Just what I was feeling,'” she said. “I think that’s just like what’s fun about being a kid in general. As you get older, you tend to overthink things. But I feel like kids really trust their first instinct and that’s kind of what he did. He just said he just thought the colors look cool together.” (via wtatennis.com)

Gauff will next lock horns with fellow American Hailey Baptiste at the 2026 Australian Open.
