WTA stars Jennifer Brady and Jessica Pegula recently shared their take on Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner’s unreal dominance on the ATP tour.
Alcaraz and Sinner have dominated men’s tennis for the last three years. There’s a clear daylight difference between these two and the rest of the ATP field as the duo has not conceded even a single Grand Slam in the last two years. Their closest opponent is Novak Djokovic, who is 38 and is not getting younger.
Talking on Nothing Major Show, Brady said it’s getting predictable and boring with Sinner and Alcaraz dominating everyone else.
“It’s so boring just watching Sinner and Alcarez like win every week,” Brady said. “It’s not boring but like you know who’s gonna win. You know they’re gonna be in the final.”
Meanwhile, Pegula would like to see some variety on the tour as she compared the WTA competition with the ATP.
“I like the variety,” Pegula said. “I mean, like Amanda coming up making finals, Maddie winning, like Jess making finals of the US Open. It’s just the variety keeps you on your toes and it’s not like, Jenny said, the same two people, but they are entertaining to watch.”
Adding further, Pegula acknowledged the dominance of Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek but she said it’s not the same as in men’s tennis with Alcaraz and Sinner possessing an edge over the others.
“We do have somewhat dominant players,” Pegula added. “I mean, like Sabalenka. Yeah. Iga had that, was it last year or the year before? She won like every single tournament for the first six months. So I feel like we have enough of it, but then you also have the other players that can still win tournaments and beat them, like Rybakina, or now we have Amanda, Maddie, myself. There’s still that variety, but I don’t think there’s like one-off players just winning tournaments. So I like where we’re at. I feel like it’s a good mix.”
Carlos Alcaraz Gets Easy Pass to Retake World No. 1 with Jannik Sinner’s Decision
Carlos Alcaraz conceded his World No. 1 ranking to Jannik Sinner after the latter defeated the Spaniard in the Monte-Carlo Masters final in straight sets. Following what he called an “hectic” start to the season, Sinner has decided to rest for the Barcelona Open to recover better for the Madrid Open.
This gives an easy pass to Alcaraz, who now has to win the Barcelona Open to get the No. 1 ranking back without having to play Sinner, potentially on his way there.
Alcaraz started his Barcelona Open campaign with a win against Otto Virtanen.
