Amanda Anisimova & Iva Jovic Receive Super Sweet Surprise Messages From Their Mothers & Sisters On International Women’s Day

As the world celebrated International Women’s Day on Sunday, March 8, WTA stars Amanda Anisimova and Iva Jovic received messages from the special women in their lives. Both players are in California for the BNP Paribas Open.

The WTA’s official YouTube channel posted a video, which began with Anisimova watching a clip on her phone. The World No. 6 was surprised to see her mother, Olga, and her sister, Maria Egee, teaming up to send across their wishes. Maria was the first to go, as she said (0:00):

“Hey Amanda. Your No. 1 fan squad from Miami is here. Watching you navigate these last few years with so much grace and vulnerability has been most inspiring to witness for girls and women all over the world.”

    Her mother, Olga, said (0:24):

“And for us as well, we’re so proud of you to become such a beautiful and amazing person and smart and successful. We really, really lucky to have you as our daughter. Love you.”

Anisimova was pleasantly surprised and overwhelmed, dubbing her sister and mother “the two strongest women” in her life.

Meanwhile, 18-year-old Iva Jovic also received endearing messages from her mother, Jelena, and sister, Mia. Jelena said (1:04):

“Dear Iva, I just want you to know how deeply proud I am of you. You inspire me every single day. At just 18, you show such a beautiful maturity and courage. On this International Women’s Day, I celebrate the strength you carry both on and off the court.”

Mia, who used to play for the UCLA Bruins, said (2:01):

“Hi, Eva. It’s your older sister here. I genuinely admire your effort, passion, and commitment to everything you set your heart to. Whether that’s on the court or off, you’re an inspiration, and I can’t wait to see what you do in your future.”

Iva suffered an opening-round exit at Indian Wells, losing to Camila Osorio in three sets.

Sixth-seeded Amanda Anisimova began her BNP Paribas Open campaign against Anna Blinkova in the Round of 64. Despite losing the first set, the American bounced back to secure a 5-7, 6-1, 6-0 win.

Anisimova clashed with 25th-seeded Emma Raducanu in the round of 32 on Sunday, March 8. The World No. 6 gave no chance to the 2021 US Open winner, defeating her 6-1, 6-1 in 52 minutes.

During her on-court interview after the match, Anisimova said:

“I had a tough first (match) here, and I was just trying to go out there, have fun and pretend that I’ve never played this tournament, just go out and be fearless. I feel like that’s how I finished my last match, and that’s the mindset I was going into today.”

In the Round of 16, Anisimova will meet either Victoria Mboko or Anna Kalinskaya.
