Pete Thamel Makes Bold Case For Kalen DeBoer To Leave ‘Deep Fryer’ Alabama For Michigan As Sherrone Moore’s Replacement

Michigan has been exploring various names for its new head coaching position after Sherrone Moore’s dismissal over inappropriate relationship with a staff member. The Wolverines are looking for their next head coach after two years as Moore took the reins from Jim Harbaugh after winning the 2023 national championship.

Three popular names that are making the most noise to replace Moore are Alabama’s Kalen DeBoer, Vanderbilt’s Clark Lea and Arizona State’s Kenny Dillingham.

During a discussion on ESPN’s college football YouTube channel between Rece Davis, Pete Thamel, and Dan Wetzel, the analysts discussed why the Michigan job is a better fit for DeBoer than his current team, Alabama.

“I don’t know Kalen DeBoer particularly well like but I know you been around him now a bunch of years sat his office, spoken to him,” Pete Thamel asked Rece Davis (19:20).

“Where does he fit better? Right? Does he fit better in the deep fryer pressure cooker of why didn’t you offer the three technique from Opa-locka or does he fit better in the I’m going to go, you know, just kind of quietly like he’s an unassuming guy. Would you agree with that, Rece?,” he went on.

“Like he’s not a guy who wants attention. He’s kind of the Midwest, right? He’s not of these like SEC super preacher coaches, who’s always on from a pure fit of region program, you know, vibe dynamic. I would think in a vacuum, as Rece said, and it was a really good way to say it, it’s a better fit at Michigan,” Thamel concluded.

Kalen DeBoer Bluntly Shuts Down Michigan Interest Rumors

As the Michigan head coaching rumors caught fire and DeBoer was rumored to be a relevant name in the pool, the Alabama head coach made his intentions with the Crimson Tide program clear.

In a recently released statement, DeBoer revealed that he has not spoken to anyone else about any other job, reaffirming his commitment to the Alabama program, while expressing excitement about continuing to coach his current team.

“Haven’t talked with anyone. No plans of talking with anyone. I think that’s a lot of what I said a couple weeks ago, and continues to be the same thing. Feel strong about it,” DeBoer said.

DeBoer further shared that he feels very supported in Tuscaloosa and that his family loves living there.
