After signing a four-year $120m contract extension following a hold-up at the start of the 2024 season, Brandon Aiyuk appeared in just seven games for the San Francisco 49ers before going down with an injury. As the tension between Aiyuk and the team increased because of failure to participate in team activities, the Niners voided Aiyuk’s $27m guarantee in 2026.
With three years still remaining on his contract, the NFC West team is now looking to find potential suitors for the wideout, with a possible cut on the cards if he refuses to report to training.
Amid this tussle, the standout wide receiver has been on a rampage, posting multiple cryptic messages on social media while simultaneously refusing to contact anyone in the 49ers organization.
In his latest video on Instagram, Aiyuk appears to be cheering for the Washington Commanders, a team that’s reportedly his favorite destination if a trade were to materialize.
As fans came across the short clip, they gave their opinions on X (formerly Twitter).

Shady McCoy Speaks Out On Brandon Aiyuk’s Latest Social Media Post
While fans have not been happy about Brandon Aiyuk chanting for the Washington Commanders while being a member of an NFC rival, former Eagles running back Shady McCoy showered praise on the wideout for ‘fighting back’ against the NFL owners.
In the latest edition of the ‘Speakeasy‘ podcast, published on Sunday, McCoy said:
“He’s become my favorite wide receiver. I like it, man. It’s time to fight back. Don’t let these owners just, man, try to own you. Them days are over with. So if you want to move to a different team, why not? Let’s go, Commanders. I like it. Because, look, man, things didn’t work out in San Francisco. Really good coach, legal organization, but it didn’t work out. So let me leave. He lost money. He didn’t make the money he was supposed to make because of whatever happened.”
There have been no new comments from the 49ers front office or head coach Kyle Shanahan, and which NFC team Aiyuk suits up for in the upcoming season remains a mystery.
