Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy is ready to start a new chapter in his life, as he and his fiancée, Katya Kuropas, have arrived in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, with their son, Rome, whom they welcomed last September.
On Tuesday morning, Katya shared a lively update from Mexico. She captured the quarterback and their son, Rome, overlooking the ocean and the palm trees in the vicinity from what appears to be their hotel’s balcony. McCarthy was shirtless while Rome wore a blue outfit with a cute hat. Katya added their wedding update in the caption:
“Wedding Week.”
J.J. McCarthy and Katya Kuropas first met at Nazareth Academy in Illinois
and officially started dating on October 8, 2018. At the time, McCarthy was just a sophomore. McCarthy transferred to IMG Academy in Florida during high school. Due to this, the couple battled through long distance relationship odds.
McCarthy attained fame when he became the starting quarterback of the Michigan Wolverines. She was there for the quarterback, even supporting him in Michigan’s national championship win (2024).
Shortly after winning the national title, McCarthy proposed to Katya on a beach. They announced their engagement with a post:
“Me, You & Marley Forever & Ever”
Marley is the couple’s dog and has often featured on their social media posts.

J.J. McCarthy and Katya had a happy life with their two dogs and travel plans all around the country. In May, the couple shared they were pregnant and their baby boy is due in September. Katya shared ultrasound images of their baby.
“The best surprises come when you least expect them. Our sweet baby boy is arriving in September and we couldn’t be happier🩵🍼” she wrote in the caption.
Four days after McCarthy’s NFL debut in Chicago, where he led a 27-24 comeback win against the Bears, Kuropas welcomed their child. They named their child “Rome Micah McCarthy.”
“Welcome to the world Rome Micah McCarthy ✨The sweetest, most perfect gift from God!! We are so unbelievably blessed to be your parents💙 8.7lbs 21in,” she wrote in the caption.
Now, with the wedding scheduled this week, the couple enters a new chapter of their life as husband and wife.
