The Seattle Seahawks is one of the most recognizable franchises in the NFL as of late, due to their success in the 21st century and lineage of great players. The Seattle-based franchise has two Super Bowl titles in its history, including the most recent from Super Bowl LX. Naturally, the team’s value has significantly risen, attracting investors to take ownership of the franchise’s brand.
With the reigning NFL champions looking to go for consecutive titles, they will do so under a new owner. On Saturday, July 11, NFL insider Adam Schefter announced on X/Twitter that, per him and fellow insider Seth Wickersham, the previous Seahawks owners, the estate of Paul G. Allen, have agreed to sell the franchise to Indian-American businessman Vinod Khosla’s ownership group.
NFL fans and spectators react by commenting on the $9.6 billion sale and comparing it to other purchases that can be made with that amount of money.
“That’s like an ok European vacation to Elon Musk,” one fan claimed.
Other users all over X/Twitter drop in their takes with Khosla being a minority owner of the 49ers, which is a rival of the Seahawks.
The Seahawks, coached by Mike Macdonald, are a direct rival of the San Francisco 49ers, for which Khosla was a minority owner. Khosla will now have to relinquish his 3.1% ownership of the 49ers because of the purchase of the Seahawks. The tech billionaire’s ownership group will succeed the estate of deceased American businessman Paul G. Allen, who purchased the team in 1997.
Vinod Khosla’s Wife, Neeru, Will Be The Seattle Seahawks’ Controlling Owner
While Vinod Khosla spearheaded the purchase of the Seattle Seahawks, his wife, Neeru, will take a more hands-on position as the controlling owner of the franchise. The
memo was sent to all 32 NFL teams, per Adam Schefter, as Vinod Khosla will work more behind the scenes on the team.
Vinod Khosla is the founder and managing director of Khosla Ventures, which is based in Silicon Valley in San Francisco, California. He has a net worth of $13.1 billion per Forbes, and his ownership group’s $9.6 billion purchase of the Seahawks is the most so far in league history.
