Travis Kelce Career Earnings: How Much Did The Chiefs TE Make During 13-Season Run?

Rumors are swirling that Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce could announce his retirement after a 13-year run in the NFL. While Travis has refused to comment on his future, his decline in production over the last couple of seasons and his life away from the gridiron could influence his decision.

Kelce recently got engaged to pop superstar Taylor Swift, and the two have spoken about their desire to have a family together. He’s also 36, which is quite old for a tight end in the NFL.

According to Spotrac, Kelce has made around $111 million  — $3.1 million from his rookie contract, $46.8 million from his 2017-2021 extension, $22.7 million from his second extension (2022-2023), and $38.6 million from the renegotiation of said extension (2024-2025).

He has also received a fair number of bonuses throughout his career, starting with a $703,304 rookie signing bonus. For his 2016 extension, he received $10 million more as a signing bonus and $7 million for the 2021 extension. For postseason bonuses, it’s estimated that he has made around $600,000+ in cumulative “performance bonuses”.

In the last two years, he has made $11.25 and $12.75 in bonuses, with $23.5 roster bonuses and half a million dollars on workout bonuses. Around 47% of his earnings have been guaranteed throughout his career.

Travis Kelce on Whether or Not He Will Retire From the NFL

Speaking last month about the subject of retirement, Kelce told the press the following:

“Seeing my brother go through it, and seeing how the league works, the season re-starts in April, and I want to give the Chiefs a good opportunity, whether I come back or not, and vice versa — whether they want me back or not.”

“I’d like to make that decision before they’ve got to get draft picks and free agency opens, or gives them an opportunity to fill the roster appropriately. All that will be at the end of the season. I won’t be thinking about it until then,” he added.

Clearly, leaving the Chiefs in the best possible position is Kelce’s top priority. He also said he would be able to return and play at a high level for another year.
