Is Denzel Boston Related to David Boston? Mike Greenberg’s Bubble Bursts Amid NFL Draft Announcement

American anchor Mike Greenberg is being slammed by the football world for a wrong statement he made about Washington Huskies wide receiver Denzel Boston and former NFL standout David Boston.

On Friday, Denzel was selected by new coach Todd Monken’s Cleveland Browns with the 39th pick in the second round of this year’s NFL Draft in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

In a video uploaded by @awfulannouncing on X/Twitter, the whole sequence where Denzel Boston was picked was posted. But the post pointed out how Greenberg had an inaccurate statement during the broadcast, as he mentioned that Denzel is the son of David. Unfortunately for Greenberg, this is factually wrong as David Boston is not the father of Denzel Boston, and they don’t have any relation whatsoever.

“ So there you are now. That’s another player whose name you were waiting to hear called. You remember his dad, David Boston, a first-round pick out of Ohio State in 1999. Denzel,  125 catches and 20 touchdowns, the last two years,” Greenberg said. (0:13)

What Mike Greenberg was right about was that David Boston was selected in the first round of the 1999 NFL Draft with the eighth overall pick by the Arizona Cardinals after his time with the Ohio State Buckeyes. Still, he has no relation to Denzel Boston, as the latter’s father is actually Chris Boston, a football coach.

Cleveland Browns Assistant Coach Glen Cook Reveals Why They Drafted Denzel Boston

In a video uploaded by NFL reporter Fred Greetham on X/Twitter, Cleveland Browns assistant coach Glen Cook attended a press conference for the draft. In the video, Cook was asked why his team decided to take Denzel Boston.

“ Like I said, as we said, as we took a step back, all as all teams do when the first round ends and look at your board, it sort of just, you know, stuck out to us. Like I said, you know, we didn’t necessarily plan to take two receivers back to back. But, we also couldn’t ignore value and again, wanted to make sure that we invested on offense, gave Todd and our offensive coaches the resources they need to work with,” Cook said.

“And I mean, the two players not only fit that bill, but they complement each other and the room really, really well,” he concluded.
