“It’s No Comparison”: Antonio Freeman Opens Up on Son Alex’s World Cup Dream

Antonio Freeman played 11 seasons in the NFL and won Super Bowl XXXI with the Packers alongside Brett Favre. And for most athletes, this is a great achievement. However, speaking with TMZ, the NFL legend revealed there is something that would mean even more to him than winning a Super Bowl.

Speaking about Alex’s inclusion in the USMNT squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, he made it clear that no accomplishment from his own playing days could compare to what his son has already achieved.

“It’s no comparison. I mean, and to be honest, to reach the platform that he’s reached, my Super Bowl was very special, but there’s still no comparison to where he is right now as a 21-year-old, you know, picked and selected as one of the 26 best in the United States of America to represent your team, something I never got a chance to do. So he’s among another echelon of elite and him by far.” – Antonio said.

The statement carries extra weight considering Antonio’s career. The former Packers receiver was a key contributor during Green Bay’s championship run.

Yet for him, seeing Alex represent the country on soccer’s biggest stage places him in an entirely different category.

Alex’s rise has happened so quickly that even he himself has admitted he sometimes struggles to process how much his life has changed in such a short period.

“It’s been very quick, it’s been just a moment for me to realize how serious things are but to adjust. I feel like it’s been a blessing. [I’ve] been grateful to be able to have eight or 10 months [that] kind of changed my life,” said Alex.

Now, he’ll have the opportunity to showcase his talent on home soil in the FIFA World Cup.

Antonio Freeman Reflects on Watching His Son Alex’s Rise

While Antonio spent years playing in the NFL, he says watching his son compete on the international stage brings a different set of emotions in him.

“Now I understand what my parents went through,” he said.

The former NFL star described feeling nervous every time Alex steps onto the field, admitting that his stomach turns and his emotions take over while watching from the stands.

“You know, my hair stands up on my arm. You know, my stomach is uneasy. You know, it’s just an array of emotions that really takes over every time I see him walk out and get on that pitch and get to do something that he loves to do and he’s worked so hard for. And, man, as a parent, it’s nothing like that. You know, just seeing your kids be successful and be successful and love what they do,” he said.

For Antonio, the pride goes beyond wins and losses.

As Alex prepares to chase World Cup glory, the former Super Bowl champion is simply enjoying the opportunity to watch his son live out his dream. And if that dream ends with a trophy, that would be a special moment for both of them.
