AJ Terrell and his brother Avieon Terrell are set to play together at Atlanta, after the Falcons picked the Clemson cornerback with the 48th pick of the 2026 NFL Draft in the second round. This means the brothers are set to share a locker room for the first time in their lives.
While Avieon had followed in his brother’s footsteps, joining Clemson in 2023, that was three years too late to play alongside his brother, who left the Tigers after the 2019 season.
The selection of Avieon Terrell by the Atlanta Falcons was clearly an incredibly emotional moment for both players, as camera crews at the NFL Draft watch party recorded how the brothers fused in a hug once the cornerback’s selection was announced.
Unlike his younger brother, AJ Terrell was a first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, when the Falcons chose him with the 16th overall pick. He has been a starter for six straight seasons in the NFL and earned a Second Team All-Pro selection in 2021. In college, he was a national champion in 2018 and earned First Team All-ACC (2019) and Third Team All-ACC (2018) honors.
Avieon Terrell played at Clemson for three seasons, with the latter two being as a starter. For his efforts, he earned First Team All-ACC (2025) and Second Team All-ACC (2024) honors.
Are Avieon and AJ Terrell the first brothers to play together in the NFL?
Not at all, there are, in fact, three examples of recent pairs of brothers who have shared teams. Here are the most recent examples of brothers who have played together in the NFL:
- Shaquill (CB) and Shaquem Griffin (LB), Seahawks, 2018
- Jason (CB) and Devin McCourty (S), Patriots, 2018
- Derek (FB) and T.J. (LB) Watt, Steelers, 2020
That being said, AJ and Avieon likely get the prize for the most famous pair of brothers to play together in the NFL, at least in recent times. There’s one pair of brothers that can compete for that title, Derek and TJ Watt, who were both at the Pittsburgh Steelers between 2020 and 2022.
While TJ Watt is surely the most famous name on this list, it depends on how far AJ and Avieon go if they become the most famous pair. At the moment, they’re the most accomplished brothers in college football to play together in the NFL. Time will tell if this translates to the pros.
