Year 1 of the Matt Rhule era was marginally better than the ugly demise of the previous Nebraska Cornhuskers regime, and there are expectations of another leap toward success in the upcoming season. Will the Nebraska 2024 football schedule help facilitate a return to bowl eligibility of even relevance in the conference?

According to the CFN Strength of Schedule, the Nebraska 2024 football schedule is one of the easiest in the Big Ten. Only the Indiana Hoosiers and Rutgers Scarlet Knights have an easier ride of it this fall, and the Cornhuskers face those two teams either side of an early October bye.
However, we’re getting ahead of ourselves, as the Nebraska 2024 football schedule begins with a trio of out-of-conference games in Lincoln, another factor that weakens their strength of schedule. The UTEP Miners, Colorado Buffaloes, and FCS outfit Northern Iowa all visit the Cornhuskers, providing a legitimate roadmap to a 3-0 start.
The reason for so many home non-conference games is that the Nebraska 2024 college football schedule features five road games once Big Ten action starts. They’re not the easiest either, with trips to the Ohio State Buckeyes, USC Trojans, and Iowa Hawkeyes to overcome. The road games in Indiana and at the Purdue Boilermakers should be less challenging, comparatively.

The home slate features winnable games against Rutgers and the Illinois Fighting Illini while welcoming the Wisconsin Badgers and UCLA Bruins is preferable to facing those teams on the road. Meanwhile, it’s the teams they avoid — the Michigan Wolverines, Washington Huskies, and Oregon Ducks — that could help the Cornhuskers book a postseason berth come the end of the year.
