For quite some time, the Dwyane Wade-James Harden debate has raged all over social media as fans argue which elite guard is better than the other. Last week, Pat Beverley weighed in, claiming that his former teammate Harden was a better player for winning more individual awards and having better overall numbers.
Now, Wade himself has fired back. On Friday’s episode of “The Checkin” podcast, the three-time NBA champion brutally slammed Beverley for claiming that Harden was better than him.
“I don’t understand how you can have a conversation about me and state facts when you’re not as good as me…Don’t you ever fix your mouth to say nobody is better than me when you weren’t better than me.”
Dwyane Wade went on to remind Pat Beverley that the latter entered the league after Wade had already begun his championship legacy.
“You experienced a portion of my game. When I was winning championships, you weren’t even around. You didn’t get to feel the wrath. My career was hit by injuries and I still had a top 75 career.”
After getting drafted in the second round of the 2009 NBA draft, Beverley spent over three years in Europe before playing his first NBA game in January 2013. That summer, Wade won his third NBA title with the Miami Heat.
“I Don’t Believe Any Player Has Ever Been Better Than Me”: Dwyane Wade Explains Winning Mentality During NBA Career
In the same episode of “The Checkin,” Dwyane Wade opened up on the mentality that propelled him to success in the NBA.
“I don’t personally believe any basketball player has ever been better than me. That’s our mentality. That’s the only way you become great.”
Having been named to the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team and inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame, Wade can certainly claim that this mindset worked wonders for his career.
