Shannon Sharpe shared his thoughts on Goga Bitadze after the Orlando Magic center was involved in a verbal spat with Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic.
Bitadze and Doncic were handed a technical foul during Saturday’s Lakers-Magic game. Doncic told reporters after the game that the incident stemmed from the Magic center’s comments regarding his family.
“He said, If we talk, he will f*** my whole family. And at some point, this is a basketball court, at some point, I just can’t stand, I gotta stand up for myself, but I know I gotta do better for my teammates. I know they have my back, so I let them down today, but I hopefully get rescinded,” Dončić said postgame.
Shannon Sharpe shared his thoughts on the situation on Saturday’s episode of “Night Cap Show.” He cited Bitadze’s example, expressing how he should’ve been more careful with his comments.
“You gotta be careful talking about people’s girls and wives,” Sharpe said. “I know Luka’s not married and had some issues with his mom … we know what he’s going through with his co-parent … at the end of the day, you have to be careful how you talk to someone about their family. Everybody don’t play the same. What’s a joke to you, is death to someone else. Everybody talking bout ‘it’s just jokes’, you not a comedian. Somebody will slap fire from you.”
After the game, the Lakers submitted an appeal to the NBA, asking the league to rescind Doncic’s technical foul. The team argues that the star guard should have received a warning.
Goga Bitadze claims Luka Doncic instigated their verbal spat on Saturday
Luka Doncic’s comments regarding his incident with Goga Bitadze also elicited a comment from the Orlando Magic center. Bitadze claimed that Doncic was the first to cross the line by commenting on his mother.
“Well, he said something about my mother, which is really inappropriate. We don’t say that stuff during the game, so I don’t know if he knew that I understood his language or not. I just said whatever he told me [about] my mother [and] said it back. That was pretty much it,” Bitadze said.
Regardless of who was at fault, Doncic will be hoping to get his technical foul rescinded. If not, he will miss the Lakers’ upcoming game against the Detroit Pistons. This will be an important matchup for Los Angeles as the team is on a nine-game winning streak.
