What is Victor Wembanyama’s Career High? Closer Look as Spurs All-Star Gets on Pace to Match Wilt Chamberlain’s 100-Point Record vs Lakers

Spurs All-Star Victor Wembanyama lit up the Lakers with 25 first-quarter points in eight minutes during Tuesday’s showdown in Los Angeles. Wembanyama made the most of playing a shorthanded Lakers team without Luka Doncic, LeBron James, Austin Reaves, Marcus Smart and Deandre Ayton, going 8 of 9 from the field, including 3 of 4 from long range.

The rest of the Spurs team had combined for eight points when Wembanyama headed to the bench, while Los Angeles scored 22. It was the most points scored by a Spurs player in the first quarter since the play-by-play era (1997-98).

Wembanyama, at the end of the first, was on pace to match Wilt Chamberlain’s unbreakable record of 100 points, which has stood for almost 64 years. If not, it offers a chance for the French superstar to break his career high record of 50 points.

Wembanyama achieved that feat on Nov. 13, 2024, against the Wizards. He scored 50 in 32 minutes on 18 of 29 shots and 8 of 16 from 3-point range.

Victor Wembanyama falls 10 short of career-high as Spurs steamroll past Lakers

Victor Wembanyama played only 26 minutes as the Spurs steamrolled past the shorthanded Lakers on Tuesday, securing a 136-108 win. Wembanyama fell 10 points short of matching his career-high, scoring 40 points on 13 of 20 shots, including four triples. He was 10 of 12 from the free-throw line. Wembanyama added 12 rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block to his box score.

Wembanyama’s night ended as the Spurs took a 100-68 lead following his final shot, which came from beyond the arc. San Antonio is playing the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday, so making light work of Tuesday’s game against the undermanned Lakers was a must.

The Spurs will be glad they could do so and get their key rotation players added rest before they get back in action on the second night of a back-to-back.
