Warriors vs Suns Preview & Prediction

The Golden State Warriors began the new calendar year playing some strong basketball, putting together a 7-3 record through Jan. 19. However, catastrophe struck shortly after and completely shifted the team’s outlook.

During the Jan. 19 matchup against the Miami Heat, Jimmy Butler suffered a torn ACL in his right knee, a devastating injury that will keep him sidelined for the rest of the season. Since Butler went down, the Golden State Warriors have struggled to find consistency, managing just two wins in their last six games.

On the other side, the Phoenix Suns have quietly impressed during the same stretch. Even without Devin Booker, who has missed the past six games due to injury, Phoenix has held its own with a 4-2 record. Much of that success has to be credited to Dillon Brooks, who has averaged 25.3 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game.

Due to this surge, the Suns now sit at 31-20 on the season, placing them comfortably four games ahead of the #8 Warriors.

The season series between these two teams has been tightly contested. Across their three meetings, the average margin of victory has been just 5.0 points. Golden State picked up wins on Nov. 4 and Dec. 20, while Phoenix claimed the second matchup on Dec. 18.

For Thursday’s game, the trend of alternating wins is expected to continue. Even without Booker, the Suns enter as the favorites for several reasons. Phoenix has been dominant at home with a 17-7 record, while Golden State has struggled on the road at just 10-15. Recent form also favors the Suns, who have won four of their last five games, compared to only two wins in the Warriors’ last five.

Prediction: Expect the Suns to win by 8 points.
