Warriors Fans in Shambles as Jimmy Butler Suffers Season Ending ACL Tear: “Trade Steph”

Jimmy Butler suffered a season-ending right ACL injury against his former team, the Miami Heat, on Monday. ESPN Insider Shams Charania broke the news, as Golden State Warriors fans took to the comments section to express their disappointment.

This should be particularly deflating for the team and its fan base as the Warriors had finally managed to find some momentum and have won 12 of the past 16 games. With Jimmy Butler out, they stand very little chance of competing in the competitive West, even with a fit Steph Curry.

Here’s how fans reacted to the news:

    “Trade Steph,” a fan wrote.

“Warriors fans punching the air rn,” another fan added.

“The Warriors season ends right here. Steph wasting another window for a championship!,” a fan said.

There were also fans who speculated if this meant a return to the lineup for Jonathan Kuminga.

“What are the odds Jonathan Kuminga stays on the Warriors now?” a fan asked.

“Don’t switch up on Jonathan Kuminga now,” another added.

How Did Jimmy Butler Injury His Knee?

Jimmy Butler suffered the injury in the third quarter when he went up to grab a pass and collided with Miami guard Davion Mitchell. Butler had an awkward landing and fell to the ground in pain. He stayed there for a couple of minutes before slowly getting up and walking to the locker room with help from his teammates.

Before the injury, Butler played for 21 minutes and put up 17 points, four assists, three rebounds and two steals.

With the six-time All-Star now out for the season, it will be interesting to see where Golden State coach Steve Kerr goes to fill the void left by the forward. Will the Warriors get ultra aggressive before the trade deadline or does it mean another lifeline for Jonathan Kuminga? Only time will tell, but it won’t be too long as the Feb. 5 deadline approaches.
