Warriors 2018 Champ Gets Real About Kevin Durant and Steph Curry Fighting For Finals MVP

The Steph Curry-Kevin Durant partnership was fruitful for the Golden State Warriors, resulting in three NBA Finals appearances and two championships. According to their former teammate Nick Young, Curry and Durant were locked in a silent battle during that era of Warriors basketball.

Appearing on Bleacher Report’s “The Run,” Young recalled a moment from Game 3 of the 2018 NBA Finals when Durant hit a dagger three against the Cleveland Cavaliers. According to Young, who won his lone NBA title that year, this was a resounding statement meant to beef up Durant’s case for the Finals MVP award.

“I felt like that was him saying, ‘that’s KD right there.’ Steph and KD were fighting over Finals MVP. That’s about it. You can tell they were both trying to get it, without saying they were trying to get it.”

Durant ended up winning his second Finals MVP trophy after the Warriors swept the Cavs that year. It would take Curry four more years to earn his next NBA title and his first-ever Finals MVP nod. By then, Durant had jumped ship to the Brooklyn Nets. However, the team failed to win a ring despite his partnership with Kyrie Irving and James Harden.

Isiah Thomas on Claim That Kevin Durant Would Have Thrived With ’90s Bulls: “He Would Be a Problem in That Triple Post”

Appearing on the “Crossover Podcast,” Isiah Thomas revisited the idea of putting Kevin Durant in Michael Jordan’s shoes during the Chicago Bulls’ epic ’90s run. According to Thomas, Durant’s skill set would have been perfect for Phil Jackson’s triangle offense.

“KD would be a problem in that triple post. Who is guarding him? He’s catching it at the foul line, pinch post. He’s catching it at midrange on the low post.”

Thomas added that Durant would have done well alongside players like Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman, while insisting that he would have also been a problem for Gary Payton, Jeff Hornacek, and other past MJ defenders.
