Former NBA player Tristan Thompson is supporting U.S. President Donald Trump’s immigration policies. The Canadian-born center, who became a U.S. citizen roughly six years ago, said that “I love what he’s done” in a teaser for the latest “Katie Miller Podcast” on Monday.
Fans reacted to Thompson’s support of Trump’s immigration enforcement. One fan wrote:
“Guy shot like 20% from the free throw line his last season. That CTE eating.”
Another fan added:
“His politics are worse than his free throw %.”
One more fan continued:
“Thompson is ‘finding ways to stay relevant’ now that he is no longer in a relationship with Khloe Kardashian.”
Another fan commented:
“He doesn’t care to look at how this is actually being carried out. Trump’s sound bite campaign promise is one thing, but the truth is another.”
One fan tweeted:
“Canada doesn’t claim him btw.”
Tristan Thompson emphasized in the interview:
“In terms of where he stands with (immigration), I think…I’m a firm believer because I have family members, and I have people that are immigrants.
LeBron James’ former teammate added that people who immigrate legally “should be taken care of first and foremost.” Thompson continued by emphasizing that there is a “right way of going about (immigration).”
However, the 2016 NBA champ conceded that there is a “case to case” consideration on “the right people.”
Tristan Thompson had been playing in the NBA for nine years before he became a U.S. citizen. He said that his popularity had nothing to do with the approval of his application for American citizenship.
In January, Reuters conducted a poll that showed even Trump’s supporters have pushed back against the president’s “aggressive approach to immigration enforcement.” Mass deportations and protests following the death of activists have also marred Trump’s implementation of his immigration policies.
Tristan Thompson Visited White House Before Supporting Immigration Crackdown
Tristan Thompson is seemingly dipping his toes into politics. Before expressing his support for U.S. President Donald Trump’s immigration enforcement, Thompson visited the White House on Friday.
Now the chief advisory officer of AxonDAO, a platform that deals in blockchain technology, AI and health research, Thompson discussed the financial situations of student athletes.
The former Cleveland Cavaliers stood at the podium of the James Brady Press Briefing Room for his lecture. He talked about some of the ways athletes can be protected in their NIL investments and how they can earn from such deals.
