Jaylen Brown and the Boston Celtics have found themselves in a 1-1 tie against a Joel Embiid-less Philadelphia 76ers squad. Having lost homecourt advantage, the Celtics have a greater sense of urgency to win in Philly, but Brown might have taken things too far in Game 3.
Midway through the second quarter, the five-time All-Star drove to the paint and executed a jump stop to try to thwart Paul George’s defense. George stayed close, and when Brown tried to make his move, his elbow hit PG in the groin area.
This clip of Jaylen Brown hitting Paul George drew heated reactions, as well as witty comments, from fans online.
“Should have been a flagrant 2 and Jaylen should have been ejected.”
“Jaylen Brown with the cheap shot straight to the nuts and the refs let it slide like nothing happened. PG better be good after that one.”
“Right in the podcast”
“automatic ejection in my book. no need for dirty plays like this.”
“Paul George gonna be walking different after this”
“Nah homie went for his playoff P”
Brown was called for an offensive foul in this sequence, and when the referees reviewed the play, they opted not to upgrade the call to a flagrant foul.
The Celtics vs. Sixers series, which happens to be the most frequent matchup to occur in the history of the NBA playoffs, is expected to get even more physical as both teams fight to gain the upper hand.
“He Is Ballin”: Kevin Garnett Hypes Up Jaylen Brown Amidst Snub in Final Race for MVP
Two individuals who are happy to see Brown imposing his will in the Celtics-Sixers series are Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce.
On a recent episode of the “KG Certified” podcast, Garnett gave Brown his props despite being left out of the top three for the final MVP vote.
“Jay Brown is probably not gonna get the MVP. But man, he is ballin’!”
Garnett and Pierce went on to call Brown “the best wingman” in the league right now. These members of the ’08 Celtics championship squad are certainly hoping that JB will lead Boston back to the promised land.
