The Philadelphia 76ers concluded their three-game road trip on Wednesday with a matchup against the Washington Wizards. Despite briefly trailing by 10 points at one point in the second quarter, the Sixers quickly regained control and cruised to a 153-131 victory in a high-scoring bout.
Washington delivered one of its best offensive performances of the season, putting up 131 points, which ties for their second-highest total in regulation. Several starters made solid contributions, including Bub Carrington, Bilal Coulibaly, Tristan Vukcevic, and Will Riley, who combined for 60 points.
The Wizards’ bench was even more impressive. Anthony Gill led the team with 21 points while shooting 88.9% from the field. Justin Champagnie and Sharife Cooper also chipped in with notable contributions, combining for 28 points.
Despite such strong individual performances, Washington could not do enough to pull off an upset.
For Philadelphia, Paul George led the way with a season-high 39 points, along with five rebounds, six assists, and three steals. The backcourt duo of Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe provided strong support, combining for 51 points and 19 assists. Adem Bona also made an impact, scoring 13 points on perfect shooting and grabbing four rebounds while stepping in as a starter in place of the injured Joel Embiid.
Philadelphia 76ers playoffs picture: Updated Standings
The Philadelphia 76ers’ win at the Capital One Arena on Wednesday improves their record to 42-34. With the Toronto Raptors also losing unexpectedly to the Sacramento Kings, the Sixers have caught up to them and moved ahead into the 6th spot in the Eastern Conference standings.
For now, they are out of the play-in zone, but the situation is still tight. They are only two games ahead of the 9th-place Orlando Magic, so a small dip could push them back down. At the same time, there is still a chance to climb higher. The gap to the 5th-place Atlanta Hawks stands at just 1.5 games, keeping that position within reach.
Philadelphia 76ers playoffs picture: Remaining Schedule
The Philadelphia 76ers have been playing well recently, winning seven of their last 10 games. However, the road ahead looks pretty tough. They have the fourth-hardest remaining schedule in the league and the second-toughest in the Eastern Conference, with their upcoming opponents boasting an average win percentage of 55.8%.
Outside of the Indiana Pacers and Milwaukee Bucks, the rest of their schedule is even more challenging. The San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets, Detroit Pistons, and Minnesota Timberwolves all have better records than them.
If things go as expected over the next 10 days, without any major surprises, the Sixers will likely pick up just two more wins and finish the regular season at 44-38.
