New York Knicks vs Cleveland Cavaliers Preview and Prediction

The New York Knicks began the second half of their season after the All-Star break with a tough 126-111 loss to the Detroit Pistons on Feb. 19. Since then, they have responded well. New York bounced back with two straight wins, defeating the Houston Rockets 108-106 and the Chicago Bulls 105-99.

Karl-Anthony Towns has been the driving force behind the turnaround, averaging 26.5 points and 9.0 rebounds over those two games.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are coming off a setback of their own. A 121-113 loss to the OKC Thunder in their most recent outing snapped their seven-game winning streak, marking their first defeat in the past two weeks.

This matchup between the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds in the Eastern Conference has been tightly contested all season. The first two meetings were decided by an average margin of just five points per game.

On Oct. 22, the Knicks clinched a 119-111 victory behind OG Anunoby’s impressive 24-point, 14-rebound double-double. The Dec. 24 rematch was even closer. Donovan Mitchell poured in 34 points for Cleveland, but it was not enough. Jalen Brunson matched him with 34 of his own, and Tyler Kolek chipped in 16 big points off the bench to help New York secure a thrilling 126-124 win.

Both teams are expected to be close to full strength, setting the stage for yet another thriller that could come down to the wire. This time, though, Cleveland may have the advantage. Since the last meeting with New York, the Cavaliers have reshaped their roster, acquiring James Harden in exchange for Darius Garland. The move has paid off so far, as Cleveland has gone 5-1 with Harden in the lineup. Over that same stretch, the Knicks are 4-2.

Prediction: Expect the Cavaliers to win by 2 points.
