Anthony Edwards Predicted As Next Superstar To Land On Trade Market After Giannis Citing 2024 Transaction: Report

Anthony Edwards could be the next superstar on the trade market after Giannis Antetokounmpo. According to insider Tim MacMahon’s latest report, “NBA vultures” are circling Edwards to see if he considers a move away over a two-year-long frustration with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

“The NBA vultures are swirling around Ant in anticipation of him potentially becoming the next superstar who’s available in the trade market,” MacMahon said on Tuesday on “The Hoop Collective” podcast.

Brian Windhorst, who hosts the show alongside MacMahon, said that Edwards has been frustrated since Karl-Anthony Towns got traded to the New York Knicks, which put more pressure on him offensively.

“Ant was really frustrated throughout, really just been frustrated since Towns got traded at how he gets double-teamed,” he said.

Windhorst warned the Timberwolves need to address the double-team situation with Edwards this season. Minnesota has made a bold move to tip things off by reportedly trading Julius Randle to the Brooklyn Nets in a salary dump move, creating a $33.3 million trade exception.

However, some of it was that they could re-sign Ayo Dosunmu to a five-year $112 million contract, which they reportedly did after trading Randle. Minnesota still need to address severe roster holes if they are to contend in the Western Conference next year.

It begins with finding Edwards a new co-star after Randle’s trade and backcourt depth, as Donte DiVincenzo is likely to miss the 2026-27 season with an Achilles tear.

Anthony Edwards And The Timberwolves Missed Out On Giannis Antetokounmpo

Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves were closer to landing Giannis Antetokounmpo than most people assumed. According to insider Chris Haynes, the Timberwolves were among the three teams, along with the Miami Heat and Boston Celtics, with whom Antetokounmpo was willing to sign a long-term extension.

He ultimately landed on the Heat due to their lucrative package with Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kel’el Ware, the No. 13 pick, two future firsts, a pick swap and a second-rounder.

The Timberwolves didn’t have enough players or draft assets to match that. It would have been a dream pairing to have Edwards and Antetokounmpo run the show up north and certainly would have spiced things up in the West.

Minnesota won’t have a shot at a player of Antetokounmpo’s caliber in the foreseeable future. However, the Timberwolves can target former All-Stars or focus on building a deep roster. Kyrie Irving, Jrue Holiday, Derrick White, and Trey Murphy could be among the candidates they should pursue to have a decent shot at competing in the playoffs next year.
