San Antonio Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama suffered an injury in Game 2 of their 2026 NBA playoffs first-round series against the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday. During the second quarter, Wembanyama attacked the rim on a spin move but got tangled with Robert Williams III.
Wembanyama lost his balance and hit his chin on the hardwood. He stayed on the ground for some time before running back to the locker room. The Spurs announced he was ruled out for the rest of the game due to concussion protocol. Wembanyama’s latest injury has raised concerns about a potential lengthy absence.
Dr. Evan Jeffries listed multiple injuries Wembanyama could have suffered, including an orbital or jaw fracture, along with the concussion. With the Spurs reporting it’s a concussion, Jeffries said the usual time missed is 7 to 10 days. That means Wembanyama could miss Games 3 and 4 in Portland before potentially returning for Game 5 at home.
The onus will be on De’Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle and Devin Vassell to carry the offensive load. Victor Wembanyama had 35 points on 61.9% shooting in Game 1. He had five points and four rebounds on 1 of 3 shots in 11 minutes in Game 2.
The Spurs trailed by two when Wembanyama left. That deficit increased to 13 points in the first quarter. Just as it seemed the Spurs would find it difficult to claw their way back without their best player, they sparked into life and built a 14-point lead in the fourth quarter.
Spurs suffer massive collapse with Victor Wembanyama in concussion protocol as Portland steals Game 2
The Spurs suffered a massive collapse on Tuesday, losing 106-103 to the Trail Blazers while Victor Wembanyama was out due to concussion protocol. The Spurs were cruising with a 93-79 lead, but couldn’t keep their composure the rest of the way. Portland hit timely shots and won the 50-50 battles to secure the win.
Scoot Henderson was the biggest difference-maker with 30 points off the bench. He made arguably the most pivotal shot of the night with 2:43 left to cut the Spurs’ lead to one after a 3-pointer.
Meanwhile, the Spurs had an off shooting night across the board. De’Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle and Devin Vassell took 15+ shots each, but shot sub 40% from the field. Castle led the team with 18 points.
