Mike Tirico Ruthlessly Mocks Kevin Durant’s Burner Allegations On-Air After Star’s “Real” Trash Talking With Fan

Kevin Durant found himself on the wrong end of a blowout affair Sunday night, but amidst the Houston Rockets’ struggles against the San Antonio Spurs, the former scoring champion had time to have a verbal altercation.

With a little over four minutes left in the final frame and the Rockets down 128-108, Rockets head coach Ime Udoka called a timeout. Instead of immediately heading to their bench, Durant turned around and appeared to talk smack with a fan inside Frost Bank Center. As the NBC broadcast went to break, play-by-play commentator Mike Tirico snuck in a jab at KD.

“This is not from the burner account. This is from the real thing.”

Tirico’s line is a reference to the “KD Files” controversy that Kevin Durant got involved with a few weeks ago. On All-Star Sunday, screenshots from a burner account supposedly owned by Durant went viral, as the leaked messages contained harsh words directed at KD’s former and current teammates.

Shortly after the KD Files took the internet by storm, Durant was asked whether he was behind the burner account. Though the two-time NBA champion has admitted to using burner accounts in the past, Durant neither confirmed nor denied that he was one and the same with @gethigher77.

Due to this response from Durant, fans and pundits alike have continued to speculate on his ties to the burner account currently in the spotlight. At the very least, Tirico was right when he commented that the fan at Frost Bank Center was getting an earful from the real Durant and not a faceless online persona.

“He’s Going to Be Burning About Teammates”: Skip Bayless References KD Files as He Takes Shot at Kevin Durant

Tirico isn’t the only journalist to take a shot at Kevin Durant by referencing the KD Files. Last week, Skip Bayless fired a shot at the Rockets superstar after Houston’s 115-113 loss to Golden State.

Kevin Durant is going to be burning about teammates after that sorry home loss to the starless Warriors.

It appears that Durant will have to brace himself for more KD-related taunts in the near future.
