Mavericks’ Jason Kidd Frustrated After Mark Cuban Reveals His Involvement in Luka Doncic Trade

Dallas Mavericks coach Jason Kidd was frustrated after Mark Cuban’s comments on the Intersections podcast on Tuesday. The former Mavericks player who played and coached under Cuban’s governance wasn’t a fan of Cuban revealing his involvement in the infamous Luka Doncic trade last February.

Cuban expressed that he was wrong to sell his team to the Adelsons and Dumonts in 2023 when he decided to call out Kidd and Nico Harrison.

“That doesn’t justify it for our coach and our general manager to stand up and trade our best player,” Cuban said.

There’s been speculation around Kidd signing off on the trade that has now sent the Mavericks into a rebuild, but Cuban’s claim has put the veteran coach in the spotlight. Kidd addressed the remarks during his media availability before Dallas’ loss to the Bucks on Tuesday, saying (via Mavericks beat writer Brad Townsend):

“When are we going to move on? We have to move forward. We’re focused on the present and the future and we’ve got an incredible opportunity to build.”

Jason Kidd denied knowing about the trade until the last minute when addressing the press a day after the trade went down. After showing respect to Luka Doncic and his contributions, he sounded confident in Nico Harrison’s decision to make the massive deal, claiming Anthony Davis, now traded to the Wizards, could help them win a championship.

Mavericks fans call for Jason Kidd’s firing after Mark Cuban throws him under the bus

The majority of the Dallas Mavericks fans haven’t moved on from the Luka Doncic trade and probably, rightly so. While Doncic remains an MVP-caliber player, the Mavericks have gone from a contender to a rebuilding team. They traded Anthony Davis to the Wizards for picks and salary fillers after he made only 29 appearances.

The Mavericks were fortunate to land another potential generational prospect like Cooper Flagg with the No. 1 pick last year, but the pain of being that close to a championship and then pulling the plug persists. Mavericks fans have been clear that they want anyone and everyone involved in the Luka Doncic trade to leave the franchise.

They got their say after months of campaigning against former general manager Nico Harrison, the mastermind behind the trade. Now, the attention has turned to Jason Kidd after Mark Cuban threw him under the bus.

Here’s how fans reacted after Cuban’s comment and Kidd’s response on Tuesday:

“Lmfao Kidd telling everyone to move on. Buddy the best way to do that is for everyone associated with that trade to leave and never come back. That includes you, not just Nico!” one fan wrote.

“Nah fire that snake,” another said.

“You sat with that traitor Nico and flat out lied. I want a coach that has the cahoonas to tell the truth, suffer the consequences and move on!! I guess we’ll move on when skeletons stop coming out of the closet, Coach!!” one fan wrote.

“If Kidd was in on that trade, he needs to go,” another said.

“If he reached out to Cuban Kidd ain’t moved on either. Worried about his name. Fire Kidd,” one fan commented.
