In his first full season with the LA Lakers, Luka Doncic has built such a strong MVP case that an All-Star selection appeared to be a foregone conclusion. Doncic went on to top the fan vote to secure his sixth All-Star nod, but now, his actual appearance in the “US vs. The World” All-Star competition is in jeopardy.
On Wednesday, ESPN’s Dave McMenamin sounded the alarm when he reported that the Slovenian guard was listed as out for the Lakers’ matchup with the Dallas Mavericks the next day. McMenamin added that, at this point, Doncic “hopes” to suit up for the international team taking on the US contingent this Sunday.
On the one hand, this is bad news for the global fanbase of Luka Doncic, who had been hoping to see their favorite player compete in the All-Star mini-tournament. This is slated to be Doncic’s first All-Star appearance as a member of the purple and gold squad.
In the bigger picture, though, the Lakers are hoping that Doncic’s injury isn’t too serious. The Lakers continue to hunt better playoff positioning, and they can ill afford to miss Doncic’s stellar performance on the court.
“Has to Make You a Little Bit Nervous”: Analyst Casts Grim Outlook on Luka Doncic’s Injury
Though Luka Doncic has been shooting the lights out and putting up 32.8 points per game this season, one analyst isn’t too optimistic about Doncic’s future with the Lakers.
Appearing on FOX Sports Radio, Ric Bucher expressed a grim outlook for Tinseltown.
Luka Doncic is injured once again and if you’re the Lakers and you’re going to invest in him? It has to make you a little bit nervous to what it’s going to be going forward.
At this point, Laker fans are holding out hope that they’ll get to see Doncic resume action on the hardcourt soon.
