Over the past two decades, LeBron James has been on the receiving end of criticism from fans, members of the media, and even former NBA players. The four-time NBA champion doesn’t clap back at his naysayers on a frequent basis, but on a recent episode of his “Mind the Game” podcast, James delivered a verbal receipt to an outspoken veteran of the sport.
While James and his co-host Steve Nash were discussing the San Antonio Spurs, they heaped praise on second-generation guard Dylan Harper. As it turned out, the mention of the Spurs rookie allowed James to sneak in a shot at Harper’s father.
“Yeah, Dylan’s great. His daddy ain’t s***, but he’s good. I’ll see him when I see him.”
For years, Ron Harper Sr. has criticized LeBron James on several points. One of Harper’s go-to lines is the claim that his former teammate Michael Jordan, not LBJ, is the greatest basketball player of all time.
During a media availability this past All-Star Weekend, Harper proclaimed that he was not going to do what LeBron James has done, in that he won’t be telling his kids Dylan and Ron Jr. “what they have to do” with their professional careers.
This not-so-subtle diss, which references LeBron’s son Bronny, was a public attack that drew astonished reactions from Harper Sr.’s own sons.
Report: LeBron James Showing No Interest in a “Farewell Tour”
Meanwhile, LeBron James has also been dealing with rumors that his retirement is coming sooner rather than later. For what it’s worth, a new report by Sam Amick of The Athletic sheds some light on this situation.
“Team and league sources granted anonymity to speak openly say James has made no decisions regarding his future. The notion that James would want a farewell tour, long cited as evidence this season would be his last is false, those sources said, with several even hearing that from James himself.”
The outcome of the Lakers’ first-round series against the Kevin Durant-led Houston Rockets might very well play into James’ decision to go for another season in his storied career.
