“I’d Be Disappointed Too”: Karl-Anthony Towns Points to $140 Reality Behind Fan Frustration as Knicks Falter in Another Blowout Loss

Karl-Anthony Towns and the New York Knicks lost yet another game Monday and they were booed by their home fans at Madison Square Garden. While this is unfortunate, it isn’t too surprising as New York fans are known to be emotional and often express their disappointment inside the arena.

This was New York’s fourth straight loss. In fact, the team is just 2-8 over the past 10 games. In a season where the Knicks were dubbed the favorites in the beginning of the season, they have struggled to establish their identity in a weak Eastern Conference.

With things already on the downward spiral for the past few weeks, it got worse Monday when the Knicks lost 114-97 to the Dallas Mavericks. The loss must have been particularly infuriating for the fans as the Mavs were without key players such as Anthony Davis, Daniel Gafford, Kyrie Irving, P.J. Washington, Dereck Lively and more.

Karl-Anthony Towns was asked about the booing after the game, to which he replied:

“You spend $140 to represent your favorite player with a jersey. You come to MLK Day here at The Garden and tickets are 3x the price. I’d be disappointed too.”

With Towns understanding the fans’ frustration as well, it will be now up to him and the team to rebound from this tough stretch and go on a run before the All-Star break.

How Did Karl-Anthony Towns Fare in Loss to Dallas Mavericks

Despite suffering a lopsided loss, Karl-Anthony Towns had a fairly decent game and led the team in scoring (22) and rebounds (18). Jalen Brunson was the only other starter in double-digits with 22 points. Mitchell Robinson came off the bench for 12 points and 14 rebounds. No other Knick scored, rebounded or assisted in double-digits.

The Knicks’ next chance to rebound from this lopsided loss will come against cross-town rival Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday.
