The Philadelphia 76ers have created history! They closed out Jaylen Brown and the Boston Celtics on the road after trailing the series 1-3. Game 7 was a spectacle with both teams competing at the highest possible level. In the end, the 76ers emerged as the better team, 109-100, and the Celtics are fuming after the team let go of a 3-1 lead. However, former NBA player Brandon Jennings has backed Jaylen Brown after the brutal Round 1 exit.
The Celtics were without Jayson Tatum at the most crucial time, and they felt his absence on the floor. Though Brown scored 33 points, it came off 12-27 from the field, alongside nine rebounds, and three blocks. Apart from him and Derrick White, who had 26 points, six rebounds, and four assists, no other starter even got on the board.
Brandon Jennings calls out JT for derailing the “flow”
After the humiliating loss in Game 7, the clothing line, Tuff Crowd, owner, Brandon Jennings, shared a now-deleted post on X, covering up for Jaylen Brown, and wrote:
“That ain’t Jaylen Brown fault I till you that.
The team was doing just fine tell Tatum came back. He literally came back this year for no reason.”
Tatum returned to the team in March after tearing his right Achilles tendon in the postseason last year. He was expected to miss the season, but changed plans at the end. His presence gave Brown an extra boost on the offense, but the team was winning earlier as well. Joe Mazzulla assembled a roster around Brown that led the team to a 43-23 record without Tatum this season.
Jennings then posted another post and added to his thoughts. He wrote:
“The whole flow was different. He should have waited till next year”
The Celtics did win after Tatum’s arrival as well, but the team chemistry was hampered, and the new one couldn’t develop in the last two months before the postseason. Moreover, Jaylen Brown was left alone to do the heavy lifting in Game 7 as well.
Jaylen Brown calls out Joel Embiid for flopping
Joel Embiid was the big story in this series. He came back to the team after under a month of having an appendectomy surgery in Game 4, but couldn’t stop the team from going down 1-3. However, the next three games were completely different. He had double-doubles in the last two games, averaging 28 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists in four games.
The Process also shared that he was still struggling with post-surgery pains, but decided to continue playing. He was seen limping towards the end of Game 7, but he did not let that impact his matchup with Jaylen Brown. Embiid even talked to him after draining buckets over him during the game.
When Brown was asked about his back-and-forth with the 2022-23 NBA MVP and his dominance in the game, the Celtics guard acknowledged that he was hard to guard but blamed him for flopping fouls. Brown said:
“Embiid put a lot of pressure on us, on all our bigs, on our guards, and we didn’t really have an answer to him. We tried a bunch of different things, but he just, you know, he’s a big body, and he also was flopping around, he got some extra calls and stuff like that, and they rewarded him for that. But, you know, that’s the league we’re in.”
The 7ers will now meet the New York Knicks in Round 2. Game 1 will be played on Monday, May 4, at Madison Square Garden. It won’t be an easy matchup either, and the Process will again have to fight for every possession, as he did in Game 7.
