The Golden State Warriors are getting some much-needed reinforcements as they prepare for perhaps their toughest stretch with the play-in looming large. After being a late scratch last night, Steph Curry will return to the lineup when they lock horns against the Sacramento Kings.
Curry missed his 39th game of the season last night, as Golden State fell 119-103 to the LA Lakers, dropping to 37-34 on the season. The four-time champion had been enjoying a quietly strong MVP-caliber season, but his momentum was halted after suffering a knee injury on Jan. 29, which sidelined him for the following 27 games.
He returned last week in a 117-116 loss to the Houston Rockets, playing 26 minutes and scoring a team-high 29 points. In the next game against Sacramento, he added 17 points in under 25 minutes in a 110-105 win.
Holding Curry out last night feels like a smart move, as the Warriors tend to be extra cautious with his workload, especially with their postseason hopes hinging on his status. It’s already known they would need to play two play-in games on the road, so pushing him through a stretch of three games and then two more away contests could affect his performance if not managed properly.
Apart from Steph Curry, Kristaps Porzingis, Al Horford and Gui Santos are also trending toward being available Friday. All in all, it’s a positive update on the injury front for Golden State.
Steph Curry Stats vs Sacramento Kings
Steph Curry has faced the Sacramento Kings on 52 occasions. He holds a 38-14 record in those games, averaging 24.1 points, 5.0 rebounds and 6.8 assists over his 17-year career. He missed the season-opening game against Sacramento, which Golden State lost 121-116, before suiting up in the following two matchups. He’ll be looking to log more minutes as he ramps up his workload and gets ready for the play-in games.
