Is Deni Avdija Playing Tonight Against Celtics? All-Star Probable Sparks Concerns With Major Injury Update (Jan. 26)

The Portland Trail Blazers could face a steep challenge against the Boston Celtics on Monday, as Deni Avdija is injured and iffy to play. The All-Star reserve probable has missed three of the Trail Blazers’ last five games and could be out for a fourth game in six outings. Portland has listed him as questionable due to a low back strain.

He will likely be a game-time decision. Avdija tweaked it again on Thursday against the Miami Heat. He played 18 minutes before leaving the floor with 20 points, seven rebounds and four assists on 54.5% field goal shooting. He missed Friday’s clash against the Toronto Raptors as a game-time decision. Portland lost that game 110-98, losing its second game in Avdija’s absence.

The Israeli forward has appeared in 42 games before Monday, averaging a career-high 26.0 points, 7.1 rebounds and 6.9 assists on 47.1% field goal, 35.6% 3-point and 80.7% free-throw shooting. They are 21-21 with Avdija in the lineup and 23-23 overall.

Deni Avdija Stats vs. Boston Celtics

Deni Avdija has played 16 games against the Celtics, averaging 11.3 ppg, 5.4 rpg and 2.4 apg on 47.1% field goal and 35.6% 3-point shooting. In the previous matchup this season between the Trail Blazers and Celtics, Avidja had 24 points, seven rebounds, 10 assists and two steals on 50.0% field goal shooting.

The Trail Blazers won that Dec. 28 game 114-108 behind Avdija’s incredible effort. The Celtics are 4-4 in their past eight games, so the Trail Blazers have a solid chance to sweep the season series if Avdija suits up. He’s been one of the most difficult players to guard this year due to his offensive versatility, size and strength.

Moreover, with four wins in their last five games, the Trail Blazers are rolling as a unit and have better momentum.
