Anthony Edwards never fails to surprise fans with his dedication, love for the sport, and determination to win. In the Western Conference semifinals, the Minnesota Timberwolves battled the talented San Antonio Spurs but perished. Edwards was initially not set to play the first few games due to a knee hyperextension and bone bruise he suffered in Round 1, but he returned prematurely to help his team face Victor Wembanyama and Co.
After the Wolves were sent packing in six games, Edwards shared his pain with the media and said that he played through pain in the series. That led fans and NBA analysts to speculate that he might need surgery, now that the season is over, to help him fully recover.
However, the Wolves’ President of Basketball Operations, Tim Connelly, clarified the doubts and said:
“Ants work ethic has always been a 20, but it’s when you’re young you don’t do anything preventive, right? You think you’ll be young forever and the amount of high pressure basketball that Anthony’s seen, there’s going to be bumps and bruises.
“So I think the work ethic is always been elite and I think how he takes care of it preventatively takes care of his body is elite. So no, no surgery just some rest don’t touch a ball for a while and I think he’ll come back like he does every year, a better version of himself.”
Edwards has a lot of time to rest for now. Connelly also informed the press about Naz Reid, who also battled through multiple issues, including ankle sprain, shoulder, and throat injuries. He added that Reid will also not need any surgery. Just some rest would do the trick.
“We’re not good enough,” Tim Connelly shares his views on Anthony Edwards and Co.
Tim Connelly, in his conversation, also talked about his feelings after the Timberwolves’ second-round exit. He mentioned the team’s “brutal” loss in the last home game against the Spurs and admitted he was heartbroken. He said:
“It was brutal losing in the fashion we lost on our home court against San Antonio.”
Connelly also highlighted the team’s limitations to address before the next season and added:
“We’re not good enough right now. Our goal was to be a home playoff team, we weren’t. Our goal was to get further than we did last year, we didn’t. Those things demand action.”
The Timberwolves front office will surely make some changes to the roster, but they have made it clear that they will continue to build around Anthony Edwards. While there were consistency issues in perimeter shooting and playing good defense, Connelly also took some positives from the season, including finding good youngsters and future stars in Terrence Shannon Jr. and Ayo Dosunmu.
