There’s no shortage of chaos when it comes to Draymond Green, but in recent years, his run-ins with referees have taken a different shape. On Friday, the Golden State Warriors suffered a tough loss at home to the Detroit Pistons, dropping yet another game on their own floor.
Green was incensed by referee JT Orr’s decision to give him a technical foul in the second quarter. He even went so far as to label Orr’s performance part of a story about race.
“I find it very ironic that I got a technical foul for telling a Caucasian referee not to put his hand in my face,” Green said. “As a Black man in America, don’t put your hand in my face. I said “Hey, don’t put your hand in my face” and I got a tech, so I thought that was the most interesting part of the night.”
“Draymond, this is your chance to stop talking to me,” Green recalled Orr telling him, to which he responded, “Bro, don’t put your hand in my face.”
Orr then replied, “Oh, tech,” according to Green.
The veteran forward had a long, intense chat with Orr throughout the quarter, one that did not appear amicable. Green also approached Orr during a replay review of a missed Pistons foul on him and was clearly unamused when he was given a technical foul as he continued to protest the decision.
It was Green’s 10th technical foul of the season. If he reaches a total of 16, he will be required to serve a mandatory one-game suspension.
To rub further salt in the wound, Cade Cunningham and Co. went on to push Detroit’s lead into touching distance before eventually closing out a 131-124 victory. This is not the first time Green and Orr have crossed paths. The Warriors star has been a very critic of the ref throughout his career, and has the numbers to back up his resentment.
The defeat comes after the Warriors’ stunning 140-124 win over the Utah Jazz and leaves them eighth in the Western Conference standings, three games behind the Suns and Timberwolves, who could climb as high as fourth over the next few games.

Draymond Green Gets Honest About Being Included in Giannis Antetokounmpo Trade Rumors
It’s never easy to hear your name surface in trade rumors, especially as a player who has won multiple championships with the Warriors and helped build the team’s dynasty. However, Draymond Green isn’t worried about the possibility of being traded for the first time in his career.
Green’s name has been around in trade rumors over the course of the 2025-26 season. Most notably, Anthony Slater reported that Golden State is open to the idea of trading Green if it helps the franchise pursue a long-term trade target in Giannis Antetokounmpo.
On Friday, Draymond Green was very honest about the difficulty of hearing the rumors surrounding his trade availability, but made it clear he’s “not losing sleep over” the distractions.
“I’ve been here for 14 years. I have no reason to sit and worry about leaving. But if I’m traded, that’s part of the business. I ain’t losing no sleep though. I slept great last night.”
The 35-year-old had his best game in a while after returning from a knee injury that caused him to miss the previous two games. He scored 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting, including 4-of-9 from the three-point line, along with seven assists and six rebounds.
