Did Jared McCain Diss the 76ers on His New Song? Here’s What We Know

Jared McCain took a swipe at his former team, the Philadelphia 76ers, during a livestream with rapper PlaqueBoyMax. The 76ers traded McCain ahead of the Feb. 5 deadline a year after drafting him with the No. 16 pick.

On Friday, McCain appeared on a livestream with rapper PlaqueBoyMax and played a snippet of a song they recorded together. In one line, McCain can be heard taking a shot at his former team.

“We better not run into Philly, cause if we do s*** gonna get sticky,” McCain said. “I can’t believe they gave me up. It’s cool. I’ma show ‘em what’s up.”

McCain averaged 10.0 points, 2.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game through 60 games for the 76ers. He showed much promise during his early days in the NBA but was hindered by two major injuries.

McCain suffered a torn meniscus in his left knee during his rookie year, which limited him to 23 games. Many expected him to come back stronger in 2025-26, but he suffered a setback ahead of the start of the season after tearing the UCL in his right thumb.

Repeated setbacks led to a struggle for rhythm for the guard, leading to his departure from the 76ers, who moved him to the OKC Thunder in return for one first-round pick and four second-round picks.

A closer look at Jared McCain’s promising start with the OKC Thunder

While Jared McCain has not hit the ground running in Oklahoma, he is certainly doing better than he was in Philadelphia. Through three games, he has averaged 9.3 points and 3.0 rebounds per game.

While his numbers won’t blow anyone away, his efficiency has improved significantly. He shot 38.5%, including 37.8% from 3-point range for Philadelphia. For the Thunder, he is averaging 44.8%, including 42.9% from 3-point range.

Jared McCain and Co. will return to the court on Feb. 20, after the All-Star break, as they face the Brooklyn Nets. Although it is too early to draw any conclusions, if McCain continues his upward trajectory in OKC, the trade will look much worse for Philadelphia.
