Detroit Pistons vs Orlando Magic Preview and Prediction
The Detroit Pistons have been on a tear even without Cade Cunningham, who has been sidelined with a collapsed lung since Mar. 17. In the 10 games since his injury, Detroit has gone an impressive 8-2, with its only losses coming against the Atlanta Hawks on Mar. 25 and the Oklahoma City Thunder on Mar. 30.
This run has pushed their overall record to 57-21, putting them on pace to hit 60 wins for just the third time in franchise history.
Meanwhile, the Orlando Magic have had a rough stretch. They dropped six straight games between Mar. 16 and Mar. 24, which knocked them down into the 9th-10th range in the Eastern Conference standings. They have steadied things a bit with a 3-2 record since then, but they still sit in 9th place, 0.5 games behind the #8 Charlotte Hornets.
Looking back at their matchups this season, Detroit dominated the first meeting on Oct. 29. Cunningham led the way with 30 points and 10 assists, while Jalen Duren added 21 points and 13 rebounds in a one-sided 135-116 win.
Orlando answered back on Nov. 28 with a close 112-109 victory. Cunningham delivered a huge triple-double with 39 points, 13 rebounds, and 11 assists, but it was Desmond Bane who stole the show with 37 points and 8 rebounds.
Detroit regained control of the season series with a solid 106-92 win in their most recent meeting, on Feb. 2.
While the pattern so far has been teams alternating wins, that trend may not hold this time. The Pistons have proven to be lethal even without Cunningham, while the Magic have been inconsistent and have dropped games to weaker opponents like the Indiana Pacers. Still, with Detroit dealing with multiple injuries, Orlando should be able to keep things competitive.
Prediction: Expect the Pistons to win by 5 points.
