Denver Nuggets vs San Antonio Spurs Preview and Prediction

The Denver Nuggets appear to have lost some momentum in the second half of the season. Since the All-Star break, they have gone 5-6, causing them to slide down to fifth place in the Western Conference with a 40-26 record.

The San Antonio Spurs, meanwhile, are enjoying the best stretch of their season. Aside from a loss to the New York Knicks on Feb. 28, the Spurs have won every game since Feb. 1, giving them 16 wins during that span. In that run, they have beaten several title contenders, including the OKC Thunder, Detroit Pistons, Houston Rockets, and Boston Celtics.

That surge has pushed their record to 48-17, becoming only the second team in the Western Conference to clinch a playoff spot.

The first meeting between these two teams on Nov. 28 turned into a high-scoring thriller. Even without Victor Wembanyama, the Spurs pulled off a 139-136 victory in NBA Cup group play, backed by Devin Vassell’s 35 points. For Denver, Jamal Murray scored a game-high 37 points, while Nikola Jokic came close to a triple-double with 21 points, 9 rebounds, and 10 assists.

Heading into their next matchup, the Spurs enter as clear favorites thanks to their impressive form over the past six weeks. This time, they will also have Wembanyama available, making the team even more dangerous than in the first meeting. Fans should also get an entertaining battle between two elite European big men in Jokic and Wembanyama.

Prediction: Expect the Spurs to win by 8 points.
