Dallas Mavericks vs Minnesota Timberwolves Preview and Prediction
The Dallas Mavericks looked like they had finally found their rhythm between Jan. 15 and Jan. 22, putting together their best stretch of the season with four straight wins. Unfortunately, that momentum disappeared just as quickly. Since then, Dallas has suffered a nine-game losing streak heading into the All-Star break.
That skid has dropped the Mavericks to 12th in the Western Conference with a 19-35 record.
Meanwhile, the Minnesota Timberwolves are trending in the opposite direction. They’ve gone 6-3 during the same stretch, picking up impressive wins over teams like the OKC Thunder and the Toronto Raptors.
A big reason for that surge has been Anthony Edwards, who has elevated his game during this stretch, averaging 27.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game.
The Timberwolves have also handled Dallas comfortably this season. They’ve won both head-to-head matchups, and neither contest was particularly close, with an average margin of victory of 18.5 points. In those games, Julius Randle caused serious problems for the Mavs defense, averaging 21.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.0 assists.
Heading into Friday’s matchup, the outlook feels similar. Minnesota is in far superior form and comes in fully healthy. Dallas, on the other hand, is expected to be without Cooper Flagg, while Max Christie, Daniel Gafford, and Caleb Martin are listed as day-to-day.
Prediction: Expect the Timberwolves to win by 17 points.
