Charlotte Hornets vs Brooklyn Nets Preview and Prediction
The Charlotte Hornets have looked like one of the hottest teams in the league since the second half of the season began. Since Feb. 22, they’ve gone 13-5 and secured a spot in the play-in tournament. But that momentum has cooled off a bit lately. They dropped the last two games of their recent homestand to the Philadelphia 76ers and the Boston Celtics on Mar. 28 and 29.
Now sitting at 39-36, the Hornets are just half a game behind the Orlando Magic for the 8th spot and two games behind the 76ers for 7th.
The Brooklyn Nets are in a completely different situation. Their season has been over for a while now. Since the All-Star break, they’ve only managed to win 3 of 22 games and have fallen to 13th in the Eastern Conference with an 18-57 record. With only seven games left, they cannot even match last season’s win total of 26.
The two teams have split their season series so far. The Hornets dominated the opener on Oct. 22, with Brandon Miller and LaMelo Ball combining for 45 points and 15 assists in a 136-117 win. The Nets responded on Dec. 1, thanks to Michael Porter Jr. going off for 35 points to lead Brooklyn to a 116-103 victory.
Heading into this matchup, the contrast between the two teams is pretty clear. The Nets have effectively shut things down and are resting key players like Michael Porter Jr. and Terance Mann. The Hornets, meanwhile, are still fighting hard for playoff positioning and have real urgency. All signs point to Charlotte easily taking control of this game.
Prediction: Expect the Hornets to win by 15 points.
