After their Game 2 win, there’s a real growing sense of belief among fans that the Portland Trail Blazers might be able to pull off a first-round upset. A big reason for that optimism is the uncertainty around Victor Wembanyama, who doesn’t have a clear return timeline following a concussion. It’s not just the fans feeling confident. Damian Lillard is also fully backing his team.
Even while sidelined, he made his belief known with a bold prediction and a bit of harmless banter aimed at a Spurs veteran.
Harrison Barnes shared some photos on Instagram following their loss in Game 2, with Lillard instantly jumping into the comments along with plenty of others. That’s where he confidently predicted that the Blazers would take the series in six games.
It didn’t feel like a throwaway comment either. If he were just hyping his team, he could have easily gone with a quicker series prediction. Instead, it sounded like he meant it, giving a more realistic scoreline.
“Blazers in 6 #RipCityBaby,” Lillard commented.
Unfortunately, Lillard’s role is limited to support from the sidelines for now. He’s been out all season, recovering from a torn left Achilles tendon.
On the Spurs’ side, Barnes hasn’t found his rhythm yet in the 2026 playoffs. In Game 1, he didn’t make a single field goal and scored just two points from the free throw line. Game 2 wasn’t much better, as he finished with four points and one rebound.
With Wembanyama expected to miss Game 3 while going through the league’s concussion protocol, the Spurs will need more from Barnes to help De’Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle lead the Spurs to a win.
Victor Wembanyana “hopeful” to travel to Portland despite being uncertain for Game 3
Under the NBA’s concussion protocols, Victor Wembanyama has to go through a careful, step-by-step process before returning. He must first complete 24 hours with no physical activity, followed by light work over the next 24 hours.
Game 3 is set for Friday, which lines up with 48 hours of rest after Wednesday’s game. In theory, that gives Wembanyama a path to be cleared in time if everything checks out. However, it feels unlikely the Spurs would take any risks by rushing him back.
Despite the uncertainty around his participation in Game 3, reports suggest that Wembanyama is “hopeful” to travel with the team to Portland as the series now shifts to the Moda Center.
