Anthony Edwards’ Career High 55 Points Puts NBA World on Notice

Anthony Edwards continued his stellar sixth NBA season with a career-best outing on Saturday night. Facing Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs, the dynamic guard poured in 55 points, though the Spurs escaped with a 126-123 win.

Even in defeat, Edwards’ performance ignited social media.

Edwards scored his 55 points on 19-of-33 shooting, including 9-of-16 from beyond the arc. He went head-to-head with Wembanyama throughout the night, much like their matchup last week, but this time could not produce the same winning outcome. Wembanyama finished with 39 points and nine rebounds, while De’Aaron Fox added 25 to lead San Antonio.

In the final moments, the Timberwolves trailed by four after a Keldon Johnson 3-pointer. Edwards answered with a triple of his own to cut the deficit to one, but the foul game followed. Sent to the line down three with six seconds remaining, Edwards made the first free throw and intentionally missed the second, but Minnesota failed to convert.

Still, fans were left in awe.

“55 POINTS?! Anthony Edwards is officially in his final form. 🐜🔥,” one fan said.

“Hats off, unbelievable scoring,” another said.

“Bro dropped 55 like it was a group project and no one else showed up 😭,” another commented.

“This wasn’t a game, it was a statement 😮‍🔥 Ant went nuclear 🔥🔥,” another added.

Several fans also highlighted what appears to be a growing rivalry between Edwards and Wembanyama.

“Ant and Wemby the two future faces of the league what a show,” one said.

“So much respect for this guy. Love watching him. Even against my team. Wemby vs Ant isn’t the future. It’s the now,” another said.

Edwards currently ranks fifth in the NBA in scoring at 29.6 points per game. He trails only Lakers star Luka Doncic (33.6), reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (31.8), 76ers standout Tyrese Maxey (30.3) and Celtics star Jaylen Brown (29.7).

Despite Saturday’s loss, the Timberwolves sit at 27-15 and fourth in the Western Conference, behind the No. 3 Spurs and ahead of the No. 5 Houston Rockets by 1.5 games.

Up next for the Timberwolves are the Utah Jazz on Tuesday to cap their four-game road trip. They then begin a three-game homestand against the Chicago Bulls on Thursday, followed by two games against the Golden State Warriors on Saturday and Monday.
