NASCAR veteran Josh Berry confirmed to the media on Wednesday that he will not be racing for Wood Brothers Racing in 2027. He will part ways with the historic No. 21 Ford after the 2026 season.
Motorsport reporter Bob Pockrass shared a video in which Berry announced his WBR exit during a media availability and said he was informed just 24 hours earlier.
“You never know what kind of opportunities come about and where it goes from here. It’s just uh, it’s tough to have happen but at the same time, you know I’ve been extremely fortunate to get the opportunities that I’ve had and been extremely fortunate to drive for the Wood Brothers, and this team, and unfortunately it’s going a different direction, but you never know what doors might open up,” Josh Berry SAID.
Berry joined the historic Wood Brothers Racing ahead of the 2025 season after Stewart-Haas Racing was dissolved at the end of 2024. Five races into his maiden season with WBR, Josh Berry won his first-ever NASCAR Cup race and made it to the playoffs.
Let’s have a look at three best landing spots for Josh Berry in 2027.
#3 No. 6, No. 17 and No.60 Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing

Chris Buescher, Brad Keselowski and Ryan Preece, all three Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing drivers, have their contracts expiring at the end of the 2026 season. RFK also finds itself in a difficult position with the charters, with one of its charters being the one leased by Rick Ware Racing. RWR has already sold one of its two charters to Legacy Motor Club for 2027, and intends to keep the other one for itself.
Regardless, even if RFK only fields two full-time entries, Josh Berry still has the opportunity to secure a drive with their current drivers out of contract at the end of the year. With RFK running Fords, Berry will continue in the Ford family, the only manufacturer he’s driven full-time for in the Cup.
#2 No. 33 Richard Childress Racing
Kyle Busch’s sudden death has opened up a seat at Richard Childress Racing for the 2027 season. While Jesse Love Jr, Austin Hill and Riley Herbst are potential candidates for the seat, RCR will now have the option of signing a Veteran in the form of Josh Berry.
RCR also runs the Fords, meaning Berry will continue with the manufacturer. However, Austin Hill will drive the No. 33 for the remainder of the 2026 season, and a lot will depend on how he performs in the remaining races.
#1 No.84 Legacy Motor Club

Riley Herbst has been reported by many insiders as the favorite to fill in the No. 84 Toyota for 2027 with Jimmie Johnson retiring, and LMC acquiring its third charter from RWR. Herbst also came out recently and announced that he’ll know his NASCAR future in a month’s time.

However, Josh Berry drove as a part-time entry for Legacy Motor Club in 2023 in the No.42 Chevrolet. There is likely to be a conversation between KHI Management (Berry’s representative) and LMC.
