“These Cars Are Way More Fun to Drive”: Austin Hill Keeps Door Open for Cup Future Amid Strong ‘Commitment’ for RCR in O’Reilly Series

Austin Hill is enjoying success in the NASCAR O’Reilly Series with Richard Childress Racing. He is currently in his fifth full season driving the No. 21 RCR Chevy, with his most recent win coming at the iconic Daytona International Speedway in February.

Notably, this marked his 11th drafting-style victory and 15th of his entire career in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series. It was also his fourth victory at the 2.5-mile tri-oval racetrack.

Needless to say, Austin Hill is enjoying his success in the series. However, he has hinted at a future Cup Series campaign if the opportunity arises at the right time. Further explaining his stance, Hill told NASCAR.com:

“The angle has always been to run Cup and at least give it a shot for two or three years, but I’m having a lot of fun where I’m at at RCR and having a lot of fun in this series. If the right opportunity presents itself to go run Cup, I would definitely entertain that.

“I’m having a lot of fun in that these cars are way more fun to drive than the Cup car, in my opinion. The Cup car is a lot of fun on the road courses, but on the oval-style stuff, it’s just that the O’Reilly Series is just where it’s at for me.”

Next up for the driver is the Bennett Transportation & Logistics 250 at EchoPark Speedway, formerly known as Atlanta Motor Speedway, on Sunday. Fans can watch the 163-lap event live on CW, or listen to exclusive radio updates on PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, starting at 5 p.m. ET.

NASCAR O’Reilly Team Owner Dale Earnhardt Jr. Comments on Austin Hill’s Superspeedway Dominance

Dale Earnhardt Jr., who owns NASCAR O’Reilly Series team JR Motorsports, lauded Austin Hill’s competitive prowess following last week’s race at Daytona International Speedway. None of Dale Jr.’s drivers were able to hold off the RCR standout, who won the race with a margin of 0.081 seconds.

Speaking of Hill’s dominance, the NASCAR Hall of Famer said on The Dale Jr. Download:

“Austin Hill, man. Dude is hard to beat. I get so frustrated — Austin Hill’s gotta love this, too — he loves kicking our ass at that racetrack and Atlanta and Talladega. He’s good at it, and he knows he’s good at it. We try to scheme about how we’re gonna try to beat him, and we just can’t figure it out.”

The top five spots were secured by Justin Allgaier, Ryan Sieg, Jordan Anderson, and Sammy Smith. Ryan Ellis, Carson Kvapil, Blaine Perkins, Jesse Love, and Rajah Caruth made the remainder of the top 10.
