Somto Cyril has become the third player from the Georgia Bulldogs to enter the transfer portal as the 6-foot-11 center joins fellow teammates, Dylan James and Jeremiah Wilkinson. The transfer portal doesn’t start until the season is over, but teams might be licking their fingers to get their hands on the leading blocker from the SEC.
Let’s take a look at five teams who could be interested in bringing Cyril into the fold.
5 Potential Landing Spots for Georgia’s 6’11” Center Somto Cyril
1) Kentucky Wildcats
Somto Cyril was interested in playing for Kentucky and even committed there. However, after John Calipari left the program, he reopened his recruitment and later committed to play for Georgia over Arkansas and Georgia Tech.
Cyril would love to join Kentucky, which is known for developing NBA-level big men. Moreover, the Wildcats could use the big man’s services for rim protection and interior size. This would be a full-circle moment and a natural fit.
2) Arkansas Razorbacks
Somto Cyril might be interested in playing for head coach John Calipari, given his interest and subsequent decommitment, just because the coach left. Calipari has a particular liking for athletic, defensive bigs.
On the other hand, with Arkansas, Cyril gets the opportunity to play in a fast-paced SEC conference.
3) Auburn Tigers
Under head coach Bruce Pearl, the Auburn Tigers are known for their defensive identity. They have produced some serious shot blockers in history, and Cyril could really develop in that area after averaging 9.3 points, 5.4 rebounds, and over 2 blocks per game this season. He earned SEC All-Defensive honors and could repeat that with the Tigers. The Tigers could potentially hand him a plug-and-play role as a rim protector.
4) UConn Huskies
Dan Hurley’s program is just two wins away from winning their third national championship in four years. The Huskies are one of the elite basketball programs in the country and who doesn’t want to go there.
Their bid to create a dynasty this decade would require them to instill frontcourt depth, which they could achieve by bringing in Cyril. The program has given special preference to physical, defensive big men.
With the Huskies, Cyril could get good opportunities in March Madness.
5) Texas Longhorns
Over the last couple of years, the Longhorns have quietly been building a strong team. The Big 12 conference requires them to have good and dominating centers. If Cyril joins Texas, he would be tasked with interior defense and rebounding.
