Australian center Maper Maker has just announced where he will be playing his first year of college basketball for the 2026-27 season. On Sunday, May 24, Maker posted on his Instagram account that he has committed to John Calipari’s Arkansas Razorbacks.
This comes after Maker received offers from Penny Hardaway’s Memphis Tigers and Gerry McNamara’s Syracuse Orange. Maker visited the Razorbacks’ campus earlier this month, right after visiting the Tigers’ campus.
The 7’0″ big man eventually narrowed his commitment to the two schools and chose Arkansas. Originally, Maker was the No. 138 overall player in the class of 2025. But he has used the past season to develop through the AUNZ prep program.
“First and foremost, all praise to God. Proud to announce that I will be continuing my academic and basketball journey at the University of Arkansas,” Maker said in his caption.
Maker is now set to be one of the Razorbacks’ cornerstones for the future, especially down low in the paint. Arkansas made it to the Sweet 16 of this year’s national tournament. The Razorbacks were eliminated by the Arizona Wildcats 109-88 and finished with an overall record of 28-9 (13-5 SEC).
Maper Maker feels that John Calipari and his staff have put their belief in him
Maper Maker is expected to be a project piece for John Calipari and his program. The belief that Maker will eventually become a formidable frontcourt player is one that he is instilling in himself. In his caption, he said he is grateful for the belief and trust Coach Calipari and company have in him.
“Thank you to my family, coaches, teammates, mentor, and everyone who has helped me along the way. Special thanks to Coach Calipari and the Arkansas staff for believing in me. Let’s work. Woo Pig Sooie,” Maker wrote.
