Just weeks after winning the National Championship with Michigan, Dusty May is reportedly set to make the jump to the NBA in a move that has left college basketball fans in shock. After just two seasons in Ann Arbor, May will now replace Jason Kidd in Dallas.
This move also triggered the NCAA’s 15-day transfer portal window, which will open five days after the new head coach is hired. While Michigan has yet to name a replacement for May, players who were committed to the program for May can now find a new home elsewhere.
As news of Dusty May’s departure and the mandatory transfer portal window opening spread on social media, fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to make their opinions known on the Michigan squad facing a possible exodus.

Insider Says Dusty May’s Move To Dallas Wasn’t A Surprise
While the announcement of Dusty May leaving Michigan came as a surprise to Wolverines fans, according to NBA insider Brian Windhorst, this move was the reason behind May delaying his contract extension.
In a segment on Monday’s First Take, Windhorst said:
If I’m not mistaken, he did agree to a contract extension in Michigan. But I don’t think he ever signed it. I think that contract has been sitting on his desk for several weeks unsigned, I think because he had interest in moving on to the NBA. Stephen, can I say one thing before you go? I think we’re going to see more of this.
If Windhorst’s reports are indeed true, the reason why Dusty May wasn’t signing his contract extension could lead to bad blood between the veteran head coach and Wolverines faithful.
