Can Arkansas Beat Arizona in the Sweet 16? Prediction, Odds and Key Matchups

The Sweet 16 is finally here, and two top teams are facing off in San Jose to determine which one of them books a trip to the Elite Eight and possibly moves on to the Final Four. The No. 1 Arizona Wildcats have been dominant but have had several hiccups during the first two rounds. Meanwhile, the No. 4 Arkansas Razorbacks have been solid in the first round but got seriously challenged by High Point in the second.

Both teams are solid offensively, but Arkansas does have a big disadvantage in size. What they do have are fast guards who can quicken the pace and leave the Wildcats in the dust. Both teams are also led by star freshmen, as Arizona has Brayden Burries and Koa Peat, while Arkansas has Darius Acuff Jr. leading the charge.

Arkansas vs. Arizona March Madness Sweet 16 Key Matchups

This will be a showdown between freshman guards Darius Acuff Jr. and Brayden Burries, though Acuff seems to be doing it all for the Hogs, throwing dimes and shooting well. These two freshmen have known each other since high school, and they will meet again at the college level.

In the other guard matchup, Arizona’s Jaden Bradley will take on freshman guard Maleek Thomas, who has been a scoring machine for the Razorbacks. Meanwhile, Bradley leads the Wildcats in assists.

As for who might stop Koa Peat, Trevon Brazile has been a double-double machine and leads the team in rebounds. He could be Arkansas’s best bet in the rebounding battle, but they are massively outsized by the bigger and stronger Wildcats.

Arkansas vs. Arizona March Madness Sweet 16 Odds

Bet365 has the Arizona Wildcats as the -8.0 (-116) favorites with an over/under of 168.0 (-116) and a moneyline of -417. As for the Arkansas Razorbacks, John Calipari’s squad are the +8.0 (-116) underdog with an over of 168.0 (-116) and a +280 moneyline.

    Arkansas vs. Arizona Prediction

The Wildcats are showing why they are the No. 1 seed in their region right now, and that is why they are the clear favorites. While Arkansas has been scrappy, Arizona has a very big size advantage and is likely to win the rebounding battle and the battle in the paint. This one will result in an Arizona win, but expect Arkansas to put up a fight.
