After a breakout redshirt-freshman season in 2024, James Madison Dukes EDGE Marcellus Nash announced his entrance to the transfer portal. In a surprise move from Harrisonburg, the big defensive end should be a highly-coveted player in the portal leaving many to wonder where he could end up.

Where Could JMU EDGE Marcellus Nash Transfer?

Nash, a former three-star recruit from the state of Virginia, was decently recruited out of high school, receiving attention from a plethora of schools across the East Coast. Going back to those roots could be something of interest for him and those programs looking for a boost off the edge.

Here’s where he could end up.

    Virginia

The Cavaliers and head coach Tony Elliott are coming off a third straight bowl-less season, finishing 5-7 (3-5 ACC). Virginia picked up Ohio State redshirt senior Mitchell Melton and added Cazeem Moore from Elon from the transfer portal this winter.

Nash could factor into the lineup with them as he progresses into a strong contributor in Charlottesville.

    Virginia Tech

The Hokies lost two big-time players at the linebacker position with Sam Brumfield and Keli Lawson’s departures as well as promising youngster Ishmael Findlayter at EDGE in the winter portal. Though they did pick up a pair of three-star linebackers in Jordan Bass and James Djonkam and a three-star EDGE in Ben Bell to replace them.

Nash, whom they recruited out of high school, could help fill the 16-sack gap left by senior Antwaun Powell-Ryland.

    Appalachian State

The Mountaineers struggled to get to the quarterback last year, only piling up 23 sacks on the season. They brought in three-star linebackers Brayshawn Littlejohn and Brooks Yuracheck and three-star EDGE Malik Berry to help solve that problem.

Some more depth surely wouldn’t hurt, but Nash would be an all-star pass rusher on the Mountaineers’ roster as it stands.

    Coastal Carolina

Top EDGE Clev Lubin left Conway for bluer skies at Louisville, leaving the Chanticleers with nearly a double-digit gap in sacks. With second-leading sacker Deamontae Diggs headed to Florida State, there are big sudden openings at Coastal Carolina.

    Norfolk State

While the MEAC may not be Nash’s ideal location, staying close to home with Norfolk State and the opportunity to play for first-year head coach Michael Vick could be enough to entice him.

The Spartans did not have a single player earn above three sacks in 2024, Nash’s talent could help them change that as he would help put the team on the map under Vick’s tutelage.
