Lane Kiffin Coaching Staff: Who’s In and What’s Missing as LSU Build Continues

Lane Kiffin arrived in Baton Rouge with urgency, energy, and a clear plan. LSU moved fast to land him, and he moved even faster to begin reshaping a coaching staff that will define the next era of Tigers football.

The transition from Oxford to Baton Rouge has already produced sweeping changes, with Kiffin pulling trusted assistants from Ole Miss, retaining key LSU voices, and adding new specialists to strengthen the program’s foundation.

The early hires reflect Kiffin’s intention to build continuity on offense, stabilize the defensive core, and overhaul the support staff behind the scenes. LSU’s roster work will come later. For now, the staff is the story, and Kiffin has already filled several of the most important roles.

Who Lane Kiffin Has Hired So Far

Kiffin’s first move was securing Offensive Coordinator Charlie Weis Jr., a longtime partner who signed a three-year, $6 million deal. Weis gives LSU an experienced play-caller who understands Kiffin’s system inside out.

He’s joined by Joe Cox, who will handle tight ends and share co-coordinator duties after following Kiffin from Ole Miss. The passing attack now sits in the hands of George McDonald at receivers and Sawyer Jordan assisting on the inside.

Former analyst Dane Stevens steps in as quarterbacks coach, giving LSU a young voice with a strong developmental background. On the defensive side, continuity was the priority.

Kiffin retained Blake Baker as defensive coordinator, along with defensive backs coaches Corey Raymond and Jake Olsen. Kevin Peoples manages the edge group, while new arrival Elijah Robinson takes over the defensive line.

Kiffin also retooled LSU’s support and personnel operations. Nick Savage now leads strength and conditioning. Mike Williams joins as the senior director of player personnel. Dwike Wilson becomes director of recruiting, and analysts Donnie Both and Lou Spanos round out the off-field structure.

The newest addition is Eric Wolford, hired from Kentucky to anchor the offensive line.

Roles Still Open in Lane Kiffin’s Staff Build

Despite the aggressive start, LSU still has a few gaps to fill before the staff is complete. The most notable vacancy is the running backs coach, a critical role in Kiffin’s offense and one that impacts both development and recruiting.

The special teams coordinator also remains open, with no confirmed hire yet for a unit that struggled with consistency last season. Depth roles within the offensive staff may still expand, but the two biggest missing pieces are on the RB and special teams fronts.

The foundation is in place. Kiffin has blended familiarity, experience, and stability across his hires, and the remaining openings offer room to tailor the final pieces of LSU’s rebuild. The next few weeks will determine how fully the new regime takes shape heading into 2026.
